It has been recognised that socio economic factors are crucial to the success of incentivised conservation programs. However, it appears that the standards set by governing bodies are yet to be adequately operationalised in conservation activities, with very few defined metrics.

During my honours project, I will develop an initial set of key metrics, and potentially explore how they influence conservation at the project level. Results from this project will potentially aid the incorporation of these important factors into the identification of priority areas for investment in REDD+ to facilitate their inclusion in decision making.

I will use local scale studies (potentially Berau in East Kalimantan) to identify the type of information to account for in project development in order to address a range of safeguards. I will then seek to identify indicators at a global scale that might best represent these criteria.
